Sweat Economy to increase minting limits for users

By Sweat News | Sweat Economy News | 21 Jun 2024

This week Sweat Economy announced their intent to change the minting window from which users earn $SWEAT from the steps they take everyday. At the moment, free users can convert up to 5,000 steps a day into SWEAT, while Premium subscribers can mint up to 6,000 steps worth of SWEAT. The proposal, which will be voted in the near future, would see these limits raised to 10,000 and 20,000 steps respectively. Additionally, users would not be able to mint SWEAT for their first 3,000 steps. This will prevent any users that don't reach the threshold from earning SWEAT, thus lowering token emissions, although it could make it harder for office workers and students to get involved with the project.

A Twitter Space was held with Oleg Fomenko (Co-Founder and CEO) and Michael Brink (Head of Product).

Numbers behind the proposed change

The Sweat Economy team estimates that the new threshold will constitute a 30% reduction in tokens minted.

By starting at 3,000, free users would be able to mint 7,000 steps (from 3k to 10k) worth of SWEAT. This figure rises to 17,000 steps for Premium subscribers.

Why 3,000 though? Based on the data collected by Sweat Economy, North American users take on average 2,500 steps, while Europeans & Asians average around 3,500 steps. They have just decided to meet in the middle.

Minting difficulty

With the proposed changes, the minting difficulty rate – the amount of steps needed to mint 1 SWEAT – would see a slowdown since it gets harder for every SWEAT minted and this proposal would see a 30% reduction in minting. Oleg outlined that the minting difficulty rate would not surpass 10,000 steps/SWEAT this year.

During a round of questions, Oleg confirmed that the team would be open to change the rate at which minting difficulty increases, as it was done in October 2022, or cap it.

Users will be able to start voting from Wednesday, June 26, some users may not see the option to vote until Friday.
