We all make rookie mistakes when we first discover cryptocurrency. Some people buy at the all-time high, others lose their seed phrases. My biggest mistake? I tried to introduce crypto to the traditional folks in my small village, even though I barely understood it myself.
A few weeks ago, I was so excited about Web3 and earning crypto that I started talking about it to everyone in my neighborhood. I probably sounded like a passionate salesperson, tossing around words like "tokens," "blockchain," and "digital assets" to people who usually only talk about the price of rice and vegetables.
Fast forward to this morning. I was taking a walk when I was suddenly ambushed by one of the local aunties (ibu-ibu).
She smiled at me and loudly asked, "Hi Dira! So, how many millions have you made from that 'crypto' thing? Come on, show us! What have you bought with all that crypto money?"
Internal screaming ensued.
Millions?! I panicked inside. I haven't even made 20,000 Indonesian Rupiah (which is barely $1.20)! If I had to be completely honest, my grand total earnings from writing on Publish0x right now sit proudly at a whopping $0.27.
I was frozen between embarrassment and confusion. How do I explain bear markets, content platforms, and slow accumulation to a village auntie who expects me to hold a bag of cash? My brain completely short-circuited.
So, instead of giving her a realistic explanation, I panicked and blurted out the most ridiculous alibi:
"Oh, just wait! Next week I’m buying a new motorbike from my crypto money!"
I gave her the most awkward grin I could muster and quickly walked away before she could ask more questions.
So here I am, typing this article on Publish0x, looking at my $0.27 balance, and wondering how on earth I am going to manifest a brand new motorbike by next week. If anyone knows a dealership that accepts $0.27 in crypto for a motorcycle, please let me know. Pray for me, guys, or at least pray that my neighbors have short-term memory!
