YouTube shorts were first released in 2020 as an alternative to TikTok. Everybody loved it for being verticle videos with a maximum duration of 180 seconds. they are great for entertainment and binge-watching when you are bored. don't get me wrong when I say shorts need to be excluded from search results because there are awesome short video creators who are successful. But to me and I'm sure most of you as well, YouTube was and still is a place for learning stuff. So I prefer to watch one moderately long-form video instead of watching 100 shorts videos. YouTube was great for that. You could find informative videos with one search.
But now, you can't do that. There is more work to do to get what you want. when you search for something on YouTube your results get flooded with shorts. And you have scroll and scroll and scroll through them until you see long-form videos. That's very annoying. Or there is another workaround. That is to click on search filters and change the "duration" property only to get long-form videos. That gets very old very quickly too. It was better before, but why do I have to do these unnecessary steps to find what I am searching for now?
For crying out loud, if I want to watch shorts I can use the YouTube homepage's "shorts" tab. There is no need to include shorts in the results of the search section of the normal YouTube search. There is a place for YouTube Shorts but it's not gonna help anyone when you push those shorts when we want to find long-form videos. when searching for stuff on YouTube make it default to give long-form videos first and put shorts as an option in search filters. or better yet develop a search feature just for shorts and keep the normal video search and shorts video search separate.
