Use Crypto To Stop YouTube Stealing From Your Donations (Super Thanks)

YouTube has many ways for creators to make money. For example, AdSense. This traditional method of earning from YouTube comes with a cost, though. That is, YouTube itself takes a cut from the ad revenue. But it is totally understandable, as YouTube does more heavy lifting when it comes to choosing the right videos for the right ads and placing them. They need a way to pay for staff and hosting, too.

While it is a decent way to make some money, in 2021 and 2022, YouTube released a feature called "Super Thanks". It was a way for viewers to show their appreciation by directly donating to the creator they love. When I first heard it, I thought, finally, a way for creators to make some money without a middleman taking a cut.

But Boy, was I wrong! Last week, I learned that when you use this feature, the creator only gets 50% of the initial donation. But some websites say creators get 70% while YouTube takes 30% of the donation. It doesn't matter the percentage you are taking. You are stealing from a donation. That's very wrong. Hey, it's their platform and that's how they made it. Showing the donations as the front, but in the back, they still take a cut.

Think about it. You go to a show of your favourite comedian and you know he loves chocolate cakes. So to show your appreciation, you buy a chocolate cake as a gift, and at the end of the show, you gift it to him. But security and organizers won't let you do it yourself. So you quickly write a letter and hand it to the organizers, hoping they will do the job for you. But guess what, later you learned your favourite comedian only received half of the cake. Those organizers have eaten half of the cake on the way. They get paid for what they do. Otherwise, they won't be there. So it's very wrong that they ate half of that without even asking the true owner(the comedian). Organizers didn't deserve that cake. The artist did. But because of the system they designed, they have a way to take something that they shouldn't have received in the first place.

Anyhow, back to the topic. Now, let's say our favourite creators provide us with a link to a crypto wallet in the description. Perhaps a Bitcoin wallet. A lightning address so the costs are lower. What if we donate to our favourite creators that way? Well, you won't get that one-time-use fancy comments feature. But you have shown your appreciation to the one who deserves it. and no middleman to steal half of your donation. Wouldn't that be awesome? We have the technology, you just have to learn how to use it properly. No need to invent anything. No meme coins, nothing. We can just do it with an existing cryptocurrency. And YouTube! No, we don't need a new crypto from you either. We can just educate and adapt. By adapting a cryptocurrency for donations, we can eliminate middlemen, fees, and geo-blocks. In my opinion, this is a great thing to do. What do you think? Feel free to express your opinions in the comment section below.

Thanks, guys. will talk to you soon.
