If you are somewhat active on YouTube you probably have heard about the "Honey" browser extension. It claimed to find you the best deals when shopping online by finding coupons to reduce the price. It was promoted by some of the Biggest creators including Mr. Beast, Linus Tech Tips and etc. Everybody thought "Well, an extension to save money, Let's install it." But, turned out it was a scam all along. A video investigation on Honey extension recently went viral from a channel called Megalag. Long story short the extension hijacked affiliate commissions from influencers. But that's not all. there's more to this mess. So, I highly encourage you to watch the video to understand how this clever scam worked.
Many think this Honey extension scam is a new story. But there were some skeptics about it a few years ago too. among them is the YouTube channel affiliatemarketingmc.(FYI:-I don't believe in any of his teachings(please Do Your Own Research)) four years ago he has explained how apps like Honey work and steal affiliate commissions. This is the oldest video I found talking about this situation.
Now everybody is pissed and tries to collect damages. which is all good but you have to remember you are in the fault too. (talking to influencers) You guys promoted a product without researching about it. These days many marketers have little to no accountability and responsibility. You only had to ask one question. that is, Where does the money come from? surely nobody's gonna pay millions of dollars to influencers to promote a product unless they get something from it. Turned out that something is lifelong affiliate commissions from your fans. I must say there was another influencer who never took a deal from Honey because of his integrity and his gut feeling. that is none other than the "Markiplier". Here's a video of him predicting this.
well, the investigations are going on. we will see whether they found you coupon codes or was it a scam too. let's wait and see what happens. moral of the story is "Don't lose your integrity."
