On 04/03/2025 morning, just like every other day, I plugged my computer's cables into the plug point and switched on the power switch. I had to choose to start Windows normally as I did not shut down the computer correctly last time. No big deal, I just chose that option and hit enter. windows opened normally. So I sat down on my chair and tried to start my work.
Suddenly I felt a very strong smell. it smelled like an electrical component burning with a hint of plastic. I checked all my surroundings and I didn't see anything suspicious, but the burning smell kept coming. So I jumped off from my chair and ran to the power plug. Then I saw a smoke coming out from behind my monitor. Without thinking much, I immediately switched off the multi plug that had been used to power the computer. Luckily no fires occurred and I'm so thankful for that.
After some investigations, I figured out what has happened. I mean it's my theory. The cable is more than 2 years old. throughout its time, it was bent multiple times. I believe bending the wire caused inner copper wires to break and with time they shorted to each other, and today(04/03/2025) was its last day. I must say that I think my monitor gave me indications of a failing power cable. Recently, my monitor completely went black from time to time when I was working. I thought it was something with the power grid itself. but turned out it was because of a failing power cable.
Guess what? power cables do expire and I learned it the hard way. so check your power cables and refrain from bending them too much.
