I have been using my current ISP since 2017 because it had the best time-based packages in the country. They had time based packaged from 30 minutes up to 10 hours. No limits. No FUP. No speed decrease after using a certain amount of data. You could do whatever in that time. We had decent download speed. Not the best, but that's the best speed I've ever experienced. So, if I activated a 10-hour package, I could easily download 3 TV series with each having 8-10 seasons. It was the greatest time ever.
But for some unknown reason, my ISP informed me they're going to discontinue time-based plans, and just as they informed me, I can't see those packages anymore in the package activation section. Next thing I did was check if it was only for me, but the ban is for everyone because I see many people complaining online. For sure, it can't be that they have network congestion. How come all of a sudden they have network congestion now, that we didn't have for the last 8 years? This is just ridiculous and unnecessary. It's a huge loss for heavy users. Now, how can we download big files? Become night owls? Well, that's not an option for everyone. (also, what if they remove it too?)
The only possible reason I can see is that they are becoming greedier as time goes by. They realized that if they discountine time based plans and forced anytime data packages with data limits, they could earn much more than from time-based packages. This is disgusting, and I hope to see some changes. Otherwise, they're gonna lose a lot of loyal customers. Dear sensible ISP admins! Please do something and bring back time-based packages.
And lastly,
Of course, these are my own opinions.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day.
