The Power of Mentorship dislike

Last night I posted on the power of mentorship (https://www.publish0x.com/strike/the-power-of-mentorship-xmkezeq). I got my first dislike, which I celebrate.  Since there is no comment and I don't have a way to know why, here are some guesses, of that reader's dislike:

  • disagreement with my concept of mentorship
  • the way I presented my thoughts
  • the style of the post
  • other

Our presence in social media will always face likes and dislikes. There will be people who will identify with our thoughts and beliefs, and people who disagree with us. That is perfectly ok. We can not please or even win everybody, otherwise we will loose our authenticity in our attempt to be popular or people pleaser.

The way we deal with dislikes, criticism and disagreement is very important. It can either empower us to grow or break us. A wise approach would be to see an opposite thought or argument as a challenge to grow, rather than a personal offense or rejection. This may sound very simple or unnecessary, but if you would observe the behavior on social medias, there is an increase of anxiety or discouragement due to what is perceived as lack of support. The monetizing of the digital content has turned social media and blogs into a gold mine. In the same time the competition is so high that finding your route of success is quite painful. The hatred language has increased as well, despite the efforts to manage it. You can not control everyone, no matter how much staff you have. As the hate language is a matter of the heart, not just behavior. While you can not control other's reactions, you can use their reaction to refine your content, and still be you. Feedback would be key in this, as feedback is more concrete and it guides you. A like or dislike emoji does not tell a lot.

One of the things I don't like about Publish0x is the lack of discussion, because discussions are not monetized. Comments do not count for tips. I think this is a weakness of the platform, as it creates a vacuum. Saying that, I have in mind the argument that a good post will always attract discussion. But in this platform if discussion does not have any relation to monetizing, than it is rightly considered as a waste of time. If a user is after the cryptocurrency, why bothering about giving their opinions if that does not translate into investment.

For an author though feedback is crucial. One of the revolutions of the social media is that it has changed the way we approach digital space now. The engine of the digital communication is engagement, not exposure.
