NFL: Odd Starts The New Norm?

NFL: Odd Starts The New Norm?

Week 2 is in the books and I have to say that it's been a weird start to the season & the season just feels weird.  Chiefs, Bills, Bengals are off to shaky starts. Aaron Rodgers went out for possibly the season after 4 plays in his Jets debut while Jordan Love & the Packers didn't miss a beat against a Bears team that's trending backwards the first two weeks of the season.  Surprisingly to some, Baker Mayfield has the Bucs undefeated and sitting atop the NFC South, but I'm not surprised just yet because Baker has had to fight against the odds his entire career thus far and he continues to respond well to challenges and naysayers alike.  The Dallas Cowboys however have come out the gate as the strongest team in these first 2 weeks to the tune of 70 points in two games and a defense that has tortured opposing offenses thus far.  My only question is will they keep it up? I feel like they definitely have the team to go to the Super Bowl, but the last couple years they've always run into a wall of some kind over the long run in the season & specifically in the playoffs.  With all that said, I think the strange start to the season is just lack of pre-season reps and the real contenders will start to rise by week 6 to to show us who's who in the championship chase this year. The 49ers and Dolphins have also come out strong, but each of those teams need 1 player in particular to stay healthy this season in order for them to remain powerhouses.  The 49ers need McCaffrey & the Dolphins need Tua healthy all year long because they both play in division that can change with the swing of a pendulum. I think these kind of starts to the NFL season is something we should all get used to because more and more franchise players are being held out of the preseason to keep them healthy, but it also makes them start off a little slower. Thankfully the length of the season helps to balance that out with more games so I think this will a be a season that has a good chance of crowning a new champion that hasn't taken the trophy home in a while.  Could this be the year for the Ravens finally? or maybe the Cowboys finally get over the playoff hump of first round knock outs with Mike McCarthy taking over play calling?  Either way, it's gonna be a fun watch this year and I truly hope this can be a more healthy season for all players and especially the marquee players for their respective franchises that we expect to see back in the playoffs this year.
