NFL: Broncos Axe Hackett As Head Coach

NFL: Broncos Axe Hackett As Head Coach

The Denver Broncos fired their head coach Nathaniel Hackett earlier this week due to a disaster of a season for the team.  The expectations were high for the first year head coach and especially with having one of the all-time greats in Russell Wilson added to the roster via trade.  Unfortunately things got off to a rocky start and the team just never recovered. Wilson looked lost more often than not and I was surprised that Hackett didn't make any adjustments to help him be more comfortable in the offense. It was clear Hackett was struggling when he relieved himself of play calling duties and didn't really say a whole lot about it. I can understand in a way because the product on the field spoke for itself and it didn't look good at all.  You have to think though that it probably shifted the way the front office was accessing him as a coach. After Hackett was fired, Wilson said in an interview that he wish he would have played better for Hackett, but I see it as though Hackett could've coached better for Wilson as well.  In today's NFL more often than not, team will make changes to play to their QB's strengths. When the Broncos got Peyton Manning, head coach John Fox made the necessary adjustments. Bruce Arians did the same for Tom Brady. Stafford when he went to the Rams and there's plenty more examples I could give, but I think you get the point here.  For some reason that didn't happen with Hackett and Wilson which makes one curious to know why not? I'm sure that info will come out in time so we'll keep it moving along and touch on where the Broncos go from here. They're a team with one of the best defenses in the league, young talent at receiver, a QB that I personally feel is still top shelf in Wilson, but I feel like they still need to get solid at the RB position. Keep that defense together, land the right coach and get Wilson back on track and the Broncos will have the chance to be of the quickest turnaround's we've seen a team have in a long time.  One thing for sure is the Broncos will be a better team next season and I truly believe Russell Wilson will have a much better season. I say that because he's not the type of player that just flames out in one season. I think it's just been a combination of going to a new team, new offense and a new coach that seemed a bit stuck in his ways. The positive side of all this for the Broncos is that they'll be in good draft position and don't have a large amount of needs to fill on their roster.
