Intro to Sports Betting Part 6: Free Sportsbetting Alternatives - Fliff and Stakes

While betting money on sports is a popular pastime, the act of wagering money on games alienates many sports fans no matter how nice the apps are and how many bonuses you get. In this post, I wanted to present two free alternatives - Fliff and Stakes. These apps let you get in on the action without needing to put up any real money. In the case of Fliff, it is free to play and you can accumulate XP to redeem gift cards. In the case of Stakes, it is a free play-to-earn game that awards you NFTs.

Fliff

Fliff is a free app where you claim free coins every two hours to wager on sports. Every 1,000 coins you wager earns you 1 XP, and the XP can be redeemed for gift cards at a rate of 100 XP for $1. In addition, the app gives you a couple of dollars you can wager or redeem for coins to earn more XP. You can purchase more coins if you would like, but it is unnecessary as the app is free to play and does not require paying to earn XP or gift cards.

Stakes

Stakes is a free play-to-earn sports betting app that awards NFTs. It is also unique in that you can create your own wager that others can bet on and you earn a commission from other users betting on your wager as well. The payout ratios are not displayed, but the Stakes team determines the payout based on the amount wagered on the options and the probability of each event. For example, you might ask who throws for more yards, Tom Brady or Russel Wilson? Or who runs for more touchdowns, in the second quarter, Joe Mixon or Gus Edwards? The prizes are awarded at the end of each week. There is one NFT awarded to the top 50% of users that week, a second NFT for the top 20% of users that week, and a third NFT for the top 10% of users that week.
