I've had the phone fall to the floor here in home quite often. Nothing has happened to it.

Today, entering Walmart I dropped my phone. I should have had it put away safely in a pocket. For some reason I had it in my left hand as I went to open the door. My left hand is NOT my main hand. Again I should have had it in a pocket. I know better. I'm really careful normally. 

I now have a phone with a cracked screen. Luckily, the phone is almost 2 years old. I'm close to getting a new phone for me. I will most likely get it sooner than I would have otherwise.

I'm going to ask would a phone case have protected the phone or are they a waste of money? Also, some suggestions for affordable Android phones would be nice. If a phone case would help drops of around 4 feet(just over 1 meter) some suggestions for those would also be nice.

Amazon links are what I'm looking for as far as suggestions go. I do Swagbucks and Mistplay. When I have enough of either, I get an Amazon Gift Card. Therefore, items I get from Amazon are basically "free" as I don't usually need to come out of pocket for them.

I am close to getting a new microphone as I stream some on Twitch and do currently make YouTube videos. The phone and case suggestions would help me out quite a bit. Again I am looking for an Android phone and knowledge on whether a case would have prevented my accident from cracking the screen.
