Earlier today my startup and I published a medium article detailing an experimental service we wrote to gather outbreak statistics about COVID-19 and SARS-CoV-2. While there are many sources of information, including the ones we scrape from (John Hopkins, and from the Conference Of Stake Bank Supervisors), we are offering this data in a unique censorship resistant fashion, while providing access to the data in real time, regardless of what country you are located in, and even if you can't connect to the sources we scrape from directly.

There is a two-fold way of accessing this data, via "real time" streaming updates through LibP2P pubsub topics, or through IPFS where we are archiving this data for long term storage and access where you can access it by IPFS hash, or by our DNSLink service https://gateway.temporal.cloud/ipns/corona.temporal.cloud which is updated every 12 hours or so. Every 60 minutes we rescrape the sources, followed by rebroadcasting the latest scraped data over LibP2P pubsub topics every minute.

By providing access to this data, distributed application developers, or even regular application can power bleeding edge insights into outbreak statistics, before the news sources update theirs. In fact whenever news websites release information they are likely scraping from the same sources we are, but due to the time delay in writing those articles and publishing them, the data sets often lag a few hours behind.

One of the really cool side effects of this service, is that smart contracts can consume this data through off-chain oracles Like Chainlink or Provable Things, while ensuring integrity of the data by way of content addressing. All of the code used to generate this data is open source and available on github, with links given in the medium post, meaning that you can mirror the data yourself as well, either by scraping from the sources, or pinning the content we publish, enabling even more wide spread access to this information
