Gemeinschaft Vitulettu

We have been living in a formerly abandoned Corsican mountain village on the edge of solitude since 1997. It is situated in the Castagniccia at 800 metres above sea level on the slope of the Caldane massif (1750 metres).

We own the village centre, the surrounding land with fruit terraces, garden land and chestnut forest is leased. We keep bees, practice organic farming and forestry. Without connection to the public electricity grid (perhaps soon with a solar system), with compost toilets, and running spring-cold water, we lead a simple self-determined life. It is very close to nature and sometimes we are at its mercy: be it that we live outside from morning to night (or at night) or that in winter the road is frozen so that we cannot go outside.

One of the ways we achieve a lively togetherness is by our efforts to look first at ourselves in conflicts, to ask: "Why does what someone else is saying affect me so much?"

We are an openly spiritual community without any confessional ties. We use the village chapel for prayer, for example, and the threshing circle and the surrounding nature for shamanic work. We offer seminars almost all year round, which we announce on the internet. For visitors there are campsites with "open-air bathrooms" (washbasin, shower, composting toilet)."
