Japanese learning #1: In medias res

Japanese learning #1: In medias res

By Crazy kappa | Skill acquisition | 25 Oct 2021

I have been learning Japanese for around a couple of months now using the Refold method (in sources).  I haven't strictly adhered to it as I still haven't finished reading all of it, and I'm taking a more laid-back approach to language learning. I use Anki to learn vocabulary words from the Core 2k/6k deck, and use it for learning other needed things like Hiragana and Katakana for reading. So far I have learned 421 words in Anki or about 7% of the total Core 2k deck. In order to immerse I watch anime on Animelon. Initially, Anime was the sole reason why I started my Japanese learning, as I thought it would be cool to be able to watch anime without English subtitles, but, throughout the process, I realized how much better learning a language is when you want to do it rather than being forced to do it for school. Back to Animelon, I just finished the first season of Haikyuu using only Japanese subtitles. I had already watched it, so rewatching it I had a bit of context so it helped me know what was going on, rather than being completely in the dark as to what I was viewing.  I'm starting this blog to hold myself more accountable, as I have been so consistent lately.

Now for my daily stats:

Today I learned: 5 words

For a while, I had been learning ten new words a day, but I have been a bit busy recently, so I cut it down to 5 new words a day, that's also why I didn't watch any anime today.

That's all for today folks. If you've got any tips or tricks feel free to comment them. If you know of a place where I can read manga in Japanese please let me know.
