Lately, I've been thinking about potential.
Not in the way people usually talk about it. Not success. Not achievement. Not becoming rich or famous.
Something quieter. Something far more personal.
It started as a feeling I couldn't name. Like I was living slightly smaller than I was meant to.
I keep wondering if there are versions of ourselves waiting patiently inside us.
Not imaginary versions. Real ones.
The woman I could become if I keep choosing courage over comfort. The woman I could become if I stop doubting myself. The woman I could become if I survive this season without letting it harden me.
Sometimes I wonder if we live more than one life. Not because we are born again. But because every decision asks an old version of us to make room for a new one.
I've lived enough life to know that one choice can divide your life into a before and an after.
One conversation. One goodbye. One act of courage. One moment of honesty that changed everything.
And suddenly you're no longer the person you were the day before.
Maybe that's why I've been sitting with this thought for so long.
What if this isn't all I am?
Not because I dislike the woman I am today. I don't.
In fact, after everything life has asked of me, I think she's done remarkably well.
She's survived things she never imagined. She's found strength she didn't know she had. She's kept moving on days she wanted to disappear into silence. And I don't say that lightly. Some of those days were very long.
I admire her for that.
But I also know she isn't finished.
There are parts of me I've caught glimpses of but haven't fully met yet.
A woman who is braver than I am today. A woman who trusts herself a little more. A woman who has learned that uncertainty isn't always a warning. Sometimes it's an invitation.
I don't know exactly what she'll look like. I don't know what she'll build. I don't know what she'll lose to become who she is.
But somehow... I know she's real.
That thought comforts me more than it scares me.
Because for a long time I believed growth was about becoming someone else. Now I think it's about uncovering the parts of yourself that have been quietly waiting for permission to exist.
Maybe that's why some seasons feel unbearably heavy. Not because life is falling apart. But because another version of you is trying to be born.
And birth has never been gentle.
For months, I kept asking myself one question. What if this isn't all I am?
Then one night, another question found me. What if this is exactly who I'm supposed to be right now?
Not the final version. Not the greatest version. Just this chapter.
A woman still learning. Still becoming. Still shedding old fears. Still making mistakes. Still choosing to believe there's more ahead of her than behind her.
Maybe those two questions were never enemies. Maybe they're meant to live side by side.
One reminds me not to settle. The other reminds me not to rush.
So I've stopped trying to force myself into the woman I hope to become. Instead, I'm trying to become her one honest decision at a time. One difficult conversation at a time. One act of courage at a time. One ordinary day at a time.
Maybe there really are many lives hidden inside one life.
If that's true...
Then I don't think they're waiting for us at the finish line. I think they're revealed every time we choose growth over fear. Every time we begin again. Every time we refuse to believe that who we are today is all we'll ever be.
I don't know how many versions of myself are still waiting.
But I have this quiet, almost unreasonable belief...
That if I keep showing up for my life — I'll meet every single one of them.
