Time Doesn’t Heal, It Reveals

Time Doesn’t Heal, It Reveals

By Shugawrites | ShugaWrites | 7 Feb 2026

Time is a strange witness.

It never speaks, yet it remembers everything.

It remembers who you were before life introduced itself with force.

Before grief gave you a new name.

Before survival became your personality.

We’re told time heals.

But time doesn’t heal, time reveals.

It reveals what you avoided.

What you buried because you didn’t yet have language for the pain.

What you survived but never named.

At first, time is cruel.

It replays memories when you’re trying to sleep.

It drags you back to moments you thought you escaped.

It stretches seconds into years when you’re waiting for relief.

But slowly, almost disrespectfully slowly, time changes shape.

One day, you remember without shaking.

Another day, the memory still hurts, but it no longer owns you.

Then one morning, you realize the wound has become a scar,

and the scar, a story.

Time teaches you that healing isn’t loud.

There’s no ceremony for growth.

No announcement when you finally stop bleeding internally.

It happens quietly:

when you choose rest instead of proving strength

when you stop explaining yourself to people committed to misunderstanding you

when you learn that surviving was never weakness

Time also exposes lies.

It exposes systems that promised safety but delivered harm.

It exposes relationships that thrived on your silence.

It exposes versions of yourself built only to endure, not to live.

Here’s the uncomfortable truth:

Time doesn’t take pain away.

It teaches you how to carry it without letting it define you.

Some people heal in years.

Some in decades.

Some never, not because they’re weak, but because they were never given room to fall apart.

If you’re still hurting, you’re not late.

If you’re still confused, you’re not failing.

If you’re still finding your footing, time is not against you.

Time is not a race.

It is a companion, sometimes harsh, sometimes gentle, always honest.

And one day, when you look back,

you won’t just see what you lost.

You’ll see what you became.

Still here.

Still breathing.

Still becoming.

That is what time does.

I am ShugaWrites,a storyteller of truth, pain, and resilience. I write raw, emotional stories rooted in reality. Fiction, non-fiction, and the in-betweens,each piece is a mirror, a wound, a fire set to silence. My work gives voice to what’s buried. Where ink meets soul. Where writing heals, earns, and connects. If it doesn’t shake something in you, I haven’t done my job.
