Everyone Is Tucked Up (We Just Lie Differently)

Everyone is tucked up.

Not in the dramatic, movie-scene way.

Not everybody is crying in bathrooms or screaming at the sky.

Some people are tucked up very quietly.

Neatly.

Respectably.

They wake up early. They show up. They laugh at the right jokes. They say “I’m fine” without flinching.

That sentence alone has buried more pain than funerals.

And somewhere inside them, something is still stuck in survival mode.

Being tucked up doesn’t always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like holding everything together too tightly.

Stability can be a trauma response too.

Most of us are walking around with unprocessed pain tucked into our personalities.

What people call “attitude” is often hurt.

What they call “cold” is often exhaustion.

What they call “too much” is usually someone who never got enough.

We don’t scare people because we’re broken.

We scare them because we’re honest.

We all carry something.

Some of us carry childhoods that ended too early.

Some carry parents who loved but didn’t protect.

Some carry homes where silence felt safer than honesty.

Some carry loss that never got a proper burial.

You don’t outgrow what you were never allowed to feel.

And no, trauma is not a competition.

The person who was beaten and the person who was ignored both learned the same lesson in different languages:

You are on your own.

Pain doesn’t measure itself by bruises.

It measures itself by what it stole, safety, trust, softness, ease.

Trauma isn’t what happened to you.

It’s what happened inside you because of it.

A lot of who we are as adults are just old coping mechanisms that overstayed their welcome.

That’s why some people can’t rest without feeling guilty.

Why love feels like a threat instead of a gift.

Why calm feels boring and chaos feels familiar.

Why some people leave too fast, and others stay too long, even when it hurts.

We don’t repeat patterns because we’re stupid.

We repeat them because they once kept us alive.

We don’t just heal and move on.

We adapt.

We armour up.

We learn how to survive rooms, relationships, expectations.

We become impressive.

And exhausted.

And then one day, we look up and realise survival has become our entire personality.

Being tucked up doesn’t mean you’re weak.

It means you lived through something that required strength before you were ready for it.

Strength, learned too early, always leaves a bruise.

But the lie we’re sold is that healing means becoming perfect.

Becoming soft overnight.

Becoming someone untouched by the past.

That’s not real.

Healing is messier than that.

Quieter.

Slower.

Sometimes it’s just recognising yourself honestly for the first time.

Sometimes healing is saying:

This is where life bent me.

This is where I hardened.

This is where I learned the wrong lesson,

and I’m still unlearning it.

Healing is not erasing the damage.

It’s refusing to let it lie to you anymore.

We are all tucked up.

The difference isn’t who is damaged and who isn’t.

It’s who is brave enough to stop pretending they aren’t.

And maybe that’s the beginning,

not of fixing yourself,

but of finally telling yourself the truth.
