365 days

365 / 365

I didn’t win this year. I just survived it.

And for a long time, I hated myself for that, like staying alive was a participation trophy I didn’t ask for and didn’t know how to celebrate.

I’m standing at the end of December with less than I started with.

Less energy.

Fewer people in my phone.

Pieces of myself I had to leave behind because they were dead weight, even when I wasn’t ready to let them go.

There were weeks where “growth” felt like a joke people told from a distance.

I wasn’t blooming.

I was waking up already tired, already calculating how much I could lose before the day ended.

Tomorrow didn’t feel like a promise; it felt like pressure.

Sometimes it felt like a threat.

I doubted my timing.

I watched other people move forward and kept looking at my own life like something had malfunctioned.

I stopped asking for speed or applause.

I started asking God for alignment,

not for ease, but for truth.

To strip away what looked good but was costing me my breath,

and to keep me where my spirit could survive,

even if it meant walking alone for a while.

Like everyone else got a map and I was just trying not to disappear between days.

There were days my mind turned against me.

Days the weight felt louder than reason.

Days I cried without words, just exhaustion, overload, too much.

On those days, staying felt like an active choice, not a default.

But looking back now, I see something else.

I see that I kept naming things instead of swallowing them whole.

I see that I chose language when silence was tightening its grip.

I see that my procrastination wasn’t laziness, it was my body asking for a pause I kept refusing to grant.

I see that wanting better people in my life wasn’t ego.

It was the first time I liked myself enough to say no.

I wasn’t just dreaming.

I was documenting pain.

I was giving language to things people survive quietly.

I was turning what tried to erase me into something I could hold, shape, and use.

I’m not fixed.

I’m not standing on a pedestal.

I’m just here.

Thinned out, yes.

More tired, definitely.

But still breathing.

Still returning.

Still choosing not to vanish, even when disappearing felt easier.

I’m done carrying what was never mine to begin with.

Done apologising for surviving differently.

Done measuring myself against clocks that were never built for my life.

The year is over.

I made it.

That’s not small.

That’s not nothing.

365 of 365.

I’m still here.

And that is enough to begin again.

#proudme❤️

I am ShugaWrites,a storyteller of truth, pain, and resilience. I write raw, emotional stories rooted in reality. Fiction, non-fiction, and the in-betweens,each piece is a mirror, a wound, a fire set to silence. My work gives voice to what’s buried. Where ink meets soul. Where writing heals, earns, and connects. If it doesn’t shake something in you, I haven’t done my job.
