On the 6th January 2018, Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona for a fee that could eventually reach £142 million and I think it's safe to say that he hasn’t lived up to expectations. Lacklustre performances and rumours of a returning Neymar make it seem like Coutinho’s time at Camp Nou is coming to an end.
In come Liverpool. Since Coutinho left, Liverpool have been in two Champions League finals, winning one, and finished 2nd in the Premier League with a record-breaking 97 points. However they never really filled the position left by the Brazilian. You could easily argue that the centre of the park is where Liverpool struggle most and Coutinho could be the player that can turn them into Premier League champions.
On Coutinho’s side, I think he will be itching for a chance to return and regain the form that gave him the ‘£142 million’ price tag in the first place.
His year and a half in Spain has definitely made him a slightly ‘less’ desirable player and Liverpool will need to take advantage of this. My personal opinion is that if Coutinho is to re-join Liverpool it has to be for less than the fee in which Liverpool received last January.
