To endure these heat waves, what's better than a good horror film set on a remote island in Fiji?
Sweetheart (2019), directed by J. D. Dillard and produced by Blumhouse.
Blumhouse Productions is an American production company founded in 2000 by Jason Blum, specializing in horror films.
Sweetheart's plot, in a nutshell: a shipwrecked woman on a desert island soon realizes she's not truly alone, as a sort of "Creature from the Black Lagoon" prowls the night in search of food to carry into a black hole in the sea (if you've never seen Creature from the Black Lagoon 1954, directed by Jack Arnold, shame on you).
I didn't mind it and recommend it.
Little dialogue, a short running time, a beautiful location, decent actors, fortunately little CGI, and the sea monster is done the old-fashioned way with an actor in costume.
The monster was created by Neville Page, an artist with a solid track record having worked on several big-budget films (Avatar, for example, or Tim Burton's Planet of the Apes).
