US Army plans to get universal cyborg soldiers by 2050

The possibility of the appearance of robotic soldiers is reported by Popular Mechanics, citing a report by the US Armed Forces "Cyborg Soldier 2050: Human / Machine Fusion and the Implications for the Future of the DOD." The American Ground Forces believe that by 2050, such technologies may appear that will make it possible to turn an ordinary soldier into a kind of universal "super-fighter" with cybernetic properties.

In its study, the Department of Defense concludes that such soldiers may have improved vision and hearing, more developed muscles, and the new means of communication will be something like "telepathy."

U.S. Army soldiers are now using bulky, relatively heavy night vision goggles to be able to see the enemy in the dark. One solution to the difficulties associated with these devices may be contact lenses with the same capabilities. It is possible that they will have the digital zoom and receive augmented reality technologies designed to display the most important details.

With regard to physical strength, it is not excluded the creation of special devices, due to which you can quickly restore tired muscles. In turn, digital "telepathy" will instantly exchange data on the battlefield.

Given the pace of technological development, all this, according to the scholars of the study, can be achieved in about 30 years. At the same time, the use of certain technologies raises not only purely technical but also moral and ethical issues. The scholars note that although such technologies may find application in various fields of life, their use is likely to be limited within a number of power structures.

Earlier it became known that Rockwell Collins introduced a new system that integrates into the helmets of soldiers and allows you to receive more detailed information about the battlefield and enemies. The IDVS system has projection displays that display data from the command center, other fighters, or UAVs. The complex also uses sensors that increase the visibility of soldiers at night or in conditions of poor visibility.

Such technologies are already being actively used to increase the situational awareness of fighter pilots. Recall, not so long ago, BAE Systems Corporation showed a video demonstrating the operation of the Striker II HMD (Helmet-Mounted Display) helmet, which can give the pilot a significant advantage in aerial combat.
