Welcome to the fourth episode, and final episode, of the series on the e-Estonia project. I will devote this episode to an element that does not fit into its previous episodes.
Mapping the country in virtual reality
Estonia has made a full virtual reality copy of the country for spatial and traffic management.
Confederation with the information system of Finland
Given that about 4% of Estonians work in Finland, cooperation has been established for the exchange of tax and personal data. This exchange takes advantage of the X-Road systems' ability to exchange data with each other. The exchange takes place between the Estonian implementation of X-Tee and the Finnish implementation of Suomi.fi Data Exchange Layer.
Data Embassy
In order to improve the resilience of databases of strategic importance, Estonia has decided to place copies of these databases in offshore centers. The first such embassy is a server room located in Luxembourg. This server room meets tier 4 security conditions in addition, the data itself is entitled to diplomatic immunity and other privileges provided by the Geneva Conventions.
#AI kratt
In 2019, the Estonian government enacted an AI development strategy, which envisions, among other things, an AI application network system for the public service system so as to create a single channel of communication with the public administration in the shape of a virtual assistant.
Complementing all of this, widely available and free educational courses have been created at the initiative of the government:
https://x-road.thinkific.com/ - courses dedicated to the X-Road protocol
https://www.elementsofai.com/ - courses on artificial intelligence
Complementing all of this, widely available and free educational courses have been created at the initiative of the open data portal.
