This month has been a great month for the crypto community. BTC reached its all time high crossing 24k$, Alts gained momentum, Defi is also going strong.
But a very unfortunate event happened as over 1 Million! email addresses related to LEDGER account has been dumped publicly. This is a very serious data breach as not only the E-mail addresses but phone numbers and physical addresses were also leaked along with it in a txt file. Initially this data was being sold on dark web at 5 BTC! . But then someone decided to dump it publicly. Several user on reddit on other social platforms have reported that they are getting spam calls and e-mails demanding ransom. here are some posts if you like to read them.
WHAT TO DO NOW?
- If you own a ledger then first check if your e-mail was included in the breach. Go to https://haveibeenpwned.com/ and check by entering your e-mail, they have added the ledger database.
- DO NOT SHARE your 24 word recovery phrase to anyone.
- CHANGE your e-mail address and for the love of god start using proton mail for crypto related activities, it has more privacy features than other service providers.
- Constantly monitor your accounts even though you were safe in this breach.
- prevent it from happening to you again in the future.
- Those who were not affected in this breach should take it as a wake up call. DO the KYC'S only if they are super important
Protect your data at every cost, it is indeed the real asset.
