Good evening, or good morning, everyone. In case you haven't noticed, rather than post a regular weekly update on Origin Materials (NASDAQ: ORGN), I have decided to just post the information as it becomes available. I will try my best to post as soon as new developments arise, but always check the official investor section on their website for official company news. A lot of the content that I post here may be speculation, opinionated, and/or unofficial. Do not consider it investment advice; always perform you own due diligence.
It's pretty amazing that only five days into the new year, the company has already released two PRs. After months of radio static in Q4 2022, Origin Materials has kicked off 2023 with two news releases. Perhaps management has made a new year's resolution to be more vocal? I don't know, but it's a theory.
CEO John Bissell will speak virtually at the 25th annual Needham Growth Conference on January 12 at 11am EST. Some of these conferences are eventually posted on the company website, but may not be available immediately, if at all. Anyway, Bissell will also conduct meetings with institutional investors.
Also revealed this week, which I have previously posted about back in December, is that the Louisiana State Bond Commission officially approved the financing for the Origin 2 Megasite in Geismar, LA. What was revealed today is that:
- Bonds will be tax-exempt
- Bank of America has been engaged to underwrite and market the bonds
That's up to $1.5 billion in bond issuance to fund O2.
Speaking of the O2 site, one particularly sleuthy investor (I believe he goes by the name SouthernInvestor and sports a spaceman Mickey Mouse avatar) has posted a current photo of the land in Geismar:
Per a Form 8-K filed on January 3, the company's annual shareholder meeting will be held on May 2, 2023.
And now, for a word on the employees. The current unofficial headcount, according to the number of employees on LinkedIn, is 173. Evidently, they prefer to promote from within:
Very exciting and congratulations to the new Senior Engineer! Origin Materials is now hiring for 11 positions:
- EH&S Specialist
- Logistics Manager
- Project Manager
- Research Scientist - Natural Product/Organic Chemistry Focus
- Environmental Specialist - Engineer
- Director of Sustainability
- Project Engineer
- Process Engineer - Solids Handling
- IT Director
- Process Engineer
- Plant Manager
And now, let's have a look at the monthly chart:
The big sell-off that began on December 27 appears to be just about in the rearview mirror. The news of the bond approval today was just what the stock needed to further pull it out of the doldrums. While the $5 level appears to be short-term resistance, a break of that level would flip the script and provide a much needed clear support level.
LinkedIn really is a great source for speculation and ideas. It's just perfect when they can meme'd:
