How Bitcoin is Used Globally

The evolving landscape of cryptocurrencies remains unknown, in terms of regulations and exactly what cryptocurrency market's position is in the global economy. While Bitcoin is still being viewed as a new world reserve currency by some, there are still many who doubt its viability and even security. Suffice to say, the space has evolved incredibly over the past 16 years, going from little known internet project to now a lightning rod of global financial markets, a bankroller of political campaigns, and a new pawn for captains of industry.

With regards to the electronic peer-to-peer cash system that was originally set out in the bitcoin white paper, it remains intact and unchanged. The true fundamental technology stands in place. We remain in the evolving world of adoption. It's happening differently in different parts of the world. Individuals around the globe are hodling BTC as a means of savings and a hedge against inflation, particularly in countries where local currency depreciation is rapid like Argentina and Venezuela.

In the United Kingdom and Canada, clear and legal compliance framework is being established to attract digital asset businesses and investments. Crypto-friendly regulation in the United States has led to use by corporations and financial institutions as an investment asset, seen as a store of value. Many US companies have pivoted to being a "Bitcoin treasury company," as a means of financial survival.

I'd be remiss to not mention the countries of Bhutan and El Salvador, whose governments have harnessed abundant natural energy resources to mine and hodl BTC. If I were a gambler, I would venture to guess that those countries are using the "store of value" strategy.

Again, if I were gambler, I would also venture to guess that there are several countries that have not gone public with BTC holdings. Mining activity points to additional countries not listed above.

Speaking of global events, several crypto firms are involved in branding campaigns at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milan. TokenFi has launched a branding campaign across Italy to showcase blockchain technology. Zondacrypto is awarding $TMPL tokens to Polish athletes for high placements in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Upbit/Dunamu (Korea): Donated 100 million won in Bitcoin to the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, marking a move to support national teams via digital assets.
