I don't know if anyone else has noticed lately, but it seems that a lot of o.g. memes from the early 21st century are now being used as the face of several Solana meme shitcoins -- think success kid, bad luck Brian, Hide the Pain Harold, etc. 

One that caught my attention in particular was Trollface. I like to think of this one as the grandfather of memes. I have seen this around the interwebs as far back as I can remember, probably seeing it first around 2009. Anyway, I never actually knew the history of Sir Trollface so I'll break down the timeline of the legendary meme:

• Created by Oakland artist Carlos Ramirez in Microsoft Paint on September 19, 2008 when he was 18 years old
• Ramirez published it on his DeviantArt page in a rage comic titled Trolls, about the senselessness of internet trolling
• Trollface was then posted to 4chan and went viral by spreading to Reddit, Imgur, and Facebook in 2009

Trollface was then minted and sold as an NFT by Ramirez in 2021. It last sold for 42 ETH via Foundation.

Anyway, there has since been many Troll shitcoins created. But the one I'm referring to that has been trending lately is this laser-eyed trollface that was launched on April 22, 2025.

Absolute craziness! An architect of internet memes turned Solana-based shitcoin. We know that there is not fundamental reason that $TROLL is worth millions of dollars, but the market cap has grown exponentially since its launch. It's a prime example of a meme coin and what madness meme traders can create. While there is absolutely no telling the future, what's clear is that Trollface has some serious traction. The goofy image that Ramirez originally drew in 2008 has found new life on the Solana blockchain...for now. Though the Trollface image will forever live in our hearts as part of internet-lore.

It appears that the coin's X profile has been suspended.
