Barnes & Noble Inches Closer to Grand Opening at Lutherville Station Shopping Center

In March 2026, it was announced that book retailer Barnes & Noble would open a new location at the Lutherville Station Shopping Center. With over 600 stores in every US state, this new location would become the twelfth location in Maryland. One of the locations is a specialized campus store at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore City.

The incoming Lutherville location will be easily accessible from the MTA Lutherville Light Rail stop, less than 500 feet away and about a two minute walk. The storefront boasts a nearly 18,000 square foot space and is expected to feature a B&N Café.

Barnes & Noble was originally founded in 1886 (as Arthur Hinds & Company) in New York City. The retailer as since expanded its offerings beyond books and currently includes maps, CDs, DVDs, toys, games, stationery, calendars, magazines, and board games.

The Lutherville location is part of the company's plan to open 60 stores across several states including California, Texas, Florida, Ohio, Illinois, and Virginia. Barnes & Noble is targeting expanding its physical footprint to over 700 locations across the US. In recent years, book stores have experienced a surprising resurgance powered by local community events and experiences, as well as being high-touch offline environments.
