Like every year Oxfam published data on the assets of the wealthiest.
If until now we were used to one percent of the richest pocketing as much as the remaining 99 percent, this time it's different.
They earned almost twice as much as the rest of paradise. At the same time, extreme poverty increased for the first time in 25 years.
They added another example: While Elon Musk paid taxes at a rate of three percent, a saleswoman in Uganda, who earns only 74 euros a month, paid them at a rate of 40 percent.
If in previous years we were left open-mouthed, this time we were left breathless. The percentage of the wealthiest earned almost two-thirds of the almost 39 billion euros of wealth created in the last two years.
As of 2020, according to Oxfam's calculations, 38.8 trillion euros were generated, of which the richest one percent earned 24 trillion.
For every dollar earned by a person in the bottom 90 percent, the billionaire earned $1.7 million.
In the last decade, both the number of billionaires and their assets have doubled.
The assets of the wealthiest increase by two and a half billion euros every day. On the other hand, as many as 1.7 billion workers live in countries where inflation is growing faster than wages, and 820 million people - or one in ten Earthlings - are hungry. According to the World Bank, inequality is increasing at the fastest rate since World War II.
What makes me angry is that they can get away with it so easily. How long can a society continue to exist, if we live in a world of such differences.
More cost for you. More profit.
Oxfam's research also showed that in 2022, at a time of rapidly rising living costs, 95 corporations involved in the sale of food and energy products doubled their revenues. They generated $306 billion (282.5 billion euros) in windfall profits, of which $257 billion (237.3 billion euros) were paid out to wealthy shareholders.
