Evaporate

By Shelley M. Latreille

Mountain Altar

Your tracking device has been wrenched free from my body.
I have disappeared, never to re-exist in front of your beady, pulsating eyes.
You can no longer guilt me into staying on the leash.
You can drain all the fluids inside your body and try to drown me,
but I will use your lies to grow gills and breathe underwater
until your fluids evaporate, causing me to be free of mind, soul, and body.
You slice into my brain cells to keep me contained.
Your memories flood into my mind and your eyes no longer light my way.
For your path is wrought with inaccuracies and your own morbid ignorance.
You tie me up and leave me to float among my brain cells.
You keep me alive by feeding me bowls of misinformation.
You pretend to have my best interests in mind,
but you only fuel your own personal agenda,
which is to turn me into you and enslave me
by forcing me to exist in your world.
I will not sleep until I know you are gone
and are no longer following me.
Forget me as I forget you…
