Even with so many advances in technology, we still have many language courses and people learning a new language. This makes us wonder why the software is not sufficient for translation, which we will find out. Then present some interesting points for learning a new language!

I'll be much appreaciated if you VotesReblogs or give any Tips. Thanks and have good reading! 🍀

Why is Software not enough?

It is curious to think that even though there have been so many advances in technology, with the creation of various applications capable of translating, such as a Google Translator or Artificial Intelligence, why are there still language courses spread across the countries, schools with two or more languages and also many other multilingual courses spread across the internet? This fact alone would be enough for reflection on the subject to exist. The closest conclusion to the truth would be that learning a new language in addition to your “main” language is still a necessity.

Previously, we only had access to text translations, through tools such as Google Translate, but with the advancement of technology, today it is possible to have voice translations and “simultaneous” translations using Artificial Intelligence tools. The main issue is the real ability of these AIs to perform, firstly, a truly simultaneous translation, which is not true because first you often need to send the message, wait for it to be translated and then play it for the other person to listen to, which does not characterize a fluid conversation, generating delays in the middle of the conversation which is very disruptive.

Have you ever imagined you are talking to someone, and you need to wait for the person to record your voice, for the artificial intelligence to process it, and then they need to listen to an audio with the translation again or read the translation? It's something that really hinders dialogue, I don't see an hour-long meeting using this type of tool, unless the technology advances even further and without bugs, which we still don't have access to.

Why do you still need to learn new languages?

We have already seen that technology, no matter how much it has advanced, has not yet reached the point of perfection to guarantee a 100% problem-free conversation. But will this one day be possible? Due to such huge AI advances in such a short time, it is difficult to say that this will not happen, but it is important to remember that the language of any country is similar to a living being. As each generation passes, new slang is formed, meanings are changed, and words change size and are shortened. Furthermore, with globalization, in addition to our own languages, many countries also have some slang from other countries as they are all very connected, with the meaning not from the original language, but from another country. How will the LLM know how to differentiate this and regional slang?

Furthermore, once again returning to the problem of delay, have you ever imagined watching a film or video and stopping from time to time, waiting for the AI to process the audio to carry out the translation. Furthermore, many contents cannot be translated directly due to copyright, books being an example, so the best option would still be to learn the new language. Lastly, AI tools are amazing, but they will start showing ads, they may start charging expensive subscriptions, but once you learn the new language, no one will take the knowledge away from you!
