TEACHERS also Teach about Life…

Generally speaking, teachers are the foundation of all professions, making them one of the noblest professions, as they are responsible for the next generation. In the case of teachers who have this mission of teaching in a very defined way, they go beyond the school curriculum, passing on fundamental life lessons to their students. This is an authority that teachers should have more freedom to exercise, since they are one of the first contacts, besides relatives, that students have with a figure who has life experience to pass on.

Being a teacher is the noblest profession!

Most people have had a teacher in their lives. Regardless of profession or position, everyone has had one or more teachers who were responsible for passing on basic knowledge. Therefore, it can be said that the teaching profession is the noblest of all, because it is the foundation for all others.

An engineer needed to be taught both in engineering school and by their elementary school teacher who taught them to do basic math calculations. A lawyer needed everyone from their Portuguese teacher, who taught them how to structure their text, to their law professor, who taught them about the laws. The teaching profession is the foundation of society, to the point that even a teacher needed a teacher to teach them how to be a teacher.

But it's not enough to just teach; many teachers who clearly understand their mission to educate the next generation go further, passing on lifelong lessons that will have an impact on many moments. Depending on the situation, they care so much about their students that they seek to help in every way possible, paying attention to a student who has started to do poorly on tests and has lost focus in class, or if something has happened outside of school, calling the parents to inform them and try to understand what is happening.

Lessons for life!

Who hasn't had a teacher who taught more than was "required"? If we were to analyze it coldly, the simple fact that a teacher teaches something beyond what is proposed by the curriculum should be considered a mistake, since they ended up dedicating class time to a subject that is not the focus, possibly even sacrificing part of the subject matter for it. However, teachings that serve you for life are often more valuable and important than a single extra subject you failed to learn.

A great example of a life lesson often comes from math teachers: the teaching of personal finance. While learning to manage money is essential for anyone, schools rarely address this topic, forcing students to learn not from teachers, but from life itself. Math teachers help students understand economics in the context of personal finance, discussing the importance of saving money for the end of the year, or even valuing their money by using coupons and discounts whenever possible.

This is a great lesson I carry with me throughout my life. Whenever I need to buy something, I always check for discounts or coupons, and analyze previous prices to see if it's on sale. It's simple, but the most impactful lessons don't always need to be complex. That's why teachers should have a little more freedom in what they teach, perhaps with some extra time beyond the scheduled curriculum.
