What is money? What is a speculative asset? What is a real asset? Which is the better choice among the three sets?
I think that everyone would have her/his own answers to these questions and I have my own ones too.
What is money?
A mean to make exchanges of goods and stuffs; it might be used by as many people as possible; simple to recognize by people all over the world.
May be gold and silver are a good choice, but precious metal are not so handy.
Fiat money are money even if they have each thaeir own problem (every country has its currency, inflation may destroy the value, ...).
What is a speculative asset? Something not real, but potentially of huge value for a small span of time: derivatives, short investments (shares are real in that the express the possess of something), ..., ?cryptos?
What is a real asset?
Something like this one...

I am not thinking about a pea plant on a dry ground, but about the possibility to have a even small piece of land to cultivate, may be near a spring or other water supply.
Which is the best choice.
I think it depends in particular by the scenario you are in.
May be that in a strange period of history when the future scenario is not so clear the best choice would be a mix of all.
