Crossing borders, beyond the limit - Part 2 - How Coronavirus changed our perception of border lines.

Crossing borders, beyond the limit - Part 2 - How Coronavirus changed our perception of border lines.

Cause of the Coronavirus outbreak, some weeks ago the Italian Government issued very strict disposals.

It is forbidden to go outside home without an important reason (to work, to shop or for health).

It is not possible to move from a municipality to the nearest for shopping. The policemen and policewomen have the task to control the justifications (written on a paper form) of people found walking or driving along the street.

In the small city where I live there is a street whose name is “Via Confine”, literally: Border Street. I think it was an ancient border line between two marquisates (some centuries ago) but now it marks the limit between the municipality where I live and the nearest one.

Last Tuesday, I was requested to go for doing a job in another town, more or less 10 Kms from home.

It was more than two weeks that I didn’t go outside my garden, but I was justified because it was for work.

I drove towards “Via Confine”, the border, where I expected to find a check point.

Even if there was not any police or check point, it has been however a strange sensation to pass over the city limits, beyond the border line.

I felt the same sensation as it is when passing from a country to another during a vacation trip.
