Top Cryptos for this Week (Biggest % Gainers Ranked 1-5)

By jmack | RandomCryptoNews | 26 Apr 2021

What qualifies a coin to be "top"?

For this week's poll of the top cryptos, I look not only at the price gain each experienced, but also the market cap (must be in the top 100) and factors surrounding each move. The coins are ranked from 1-5 below with 1 being the best.

Also, this is entirely for entertainment purposes, is not financial advice at all, and is not sponsored content either. I am simply reporting the facts. Furthermore, I use Bitscreener.com's tools to judge many of these prices and market caps.

5. Terra (LUNA)

Terra, a stablecoin deposit platform among other things, has appreciated nearly 30% in the last week. The coin claims to be "the reserve token provided by Terra...[it] creates rewards from Terra transactions and therefore appreciates value through the use of the Terra protocol. Terra is a network of price-stable cryptocurrencies pegged to the world’s major currencies. Underlying Terra is a protocol programmed to ensure price-stability through an algorithm that expands and contracts the overall money supply." This information can be found at Terra's bitscreener page.

4. Pancake Swap (CAKE)

The first de-fi token on this list, PancakeSwap has really been hot these last few weeks, and with the increased media attention placed upon defi recently, it has really taken off. It is up approximately 38% from last week's price. PancakeSwap claims to be "...a decentralized exchange for swapping BEP20 tokens on Binance Smart Chain...PancakeSwap also allows users to farm additional tokens – CAKE and SYRUP. On the farm, users can deposit LP tokens, locking them up in a process that rewards users..." The preceding information is able to be found on the PancakeSwap bitscreener page.

3. Celo (CELO)

A newcomer to the top 100 list of marketcaps (and, in fact, is only listed as being in the top 100 by certain ranking sites), Celo is a yet another defi token. This one has a very user-friendly interface that caters to mobile phone users, different from many other cryptos out there. Also allowing users to build applications on top of their system, this coin combines ideas from Ethereum and defi. It has gained upwards of 39% over the last week, even after today's sell off.

2. Solana (SOL)

Another de-fi token making headway this week was Solana, gaining 49.6% since last week. Notching more ath's, as well as quickly climbing the leaderboard of marketcaps, the currency has received massive attention in the last few days which has only added to its momentum. This coin is "a single-chain, delegated-Proof-of-Stake protocol whose focus is on delivering scalability without sacrificing decentralization or security" according to their bitscreener page.

1. Pirate Chain (ARRR)

Despite taking a major step back today, Pirate Chain is still the best performing crypto asset this week within the top 100 market caps, notching gains totaling over 130% as of today's price point. This coin aims to offer a "privacy protocol that cannot be compromised by other users activity on the network... PirateChain uses ZK-Snarks to shield 100% of the peer to peer transactions on the blockchain making for highly anonymous and private transactions" according to their page on bitscreener. It has been trading up largely in part due to positive news, increased media coverage, and general momentum with this hot market of security-based cryptos.
