Countermeasures of people herding ads

On my last post Was Mozilla's post really so much about censorship? I ended up spending a large part of my post talking about my disappointment on Mozilla’s reaction to the censorship. I guess it didn’t convey the question I raised very well. So, this time I will focus on talking about the suggestion about ads Mozilla made.

Mozilla suggested making it mandatory for the media to disclose who placed the ads. It should greatly improve the chance for the people to notify when things get abnormal. To be more blunt, it makes public manipulation much more difficult, especially for shady parties. There is not many good reasons for hiding identities when advertising I can come up with. And for those came to my mind, I think that they are rare, and none of them is a commercial advertisement. Honest businesses shouldn’t be impacted.

I think some media focused on or even enlarged the censorship part. They don't want the suggestions to get too much attention. Because it will hurt their profits. Because they may be found affiliated with the parties which place the ads. And who knows, they may be the ones who place the ads sometimes.Herding picture from wiki
