Money is an essential asset we need to get by everyday. It is a powerful means of exchange that helps us get the goods and services that we need and we desire.
But money doesn't always come by easily. They say that it is so hard to get money but it is very easy to spend it. Most of us doesn't have an unlimited source of cash and have to work hard to get it. Therefore, we should learn how to handle and spend our money wisely.
Here's what I do to save money:
-
Before buying anything I make sure that I really need it. Sometimes we are tempted to buy things because the advertisement makes it look like it is necessary for us to buy it. Advertisers persuades people to believe that if we buy a certain product, get the latest gadget, buy an outfit that is popular to many, use a make up we will be satisfied, it will make us look smart, sexy and confident. So usually think twice before buying something.
-
Buy items that are on sale. Once I'm sure that it is indeed necessary to buy something, I look for items on sale. But also keep in mind that not all items on sale should be bought.
-
Buy clothes on thrift shops. I'm not the type of person to spend a lot on dresses and clothes but I always want to look fashionable and stylish. So instead of buying new and expensive clothes, I go to thrift shops (in the Philippines we call it ukay-ukay) and spend less money on beautiful dresses and clothes. Sometimes I even find original and branded clothes and buy it for 1/4 the original amount.
-
Conscious or careful of getting debts or credits. Nowadays it is very easy to get credits and pay it on installments. I remember few months ago, a man was going house in our neighborhood and is looking for people who are interested to take a loan. My neighbor borrowed money from him and after several months, he is complaining that it's hard to pay off the debt. So I really don't like getting debts and owing money from others.
-
I cook my own food instead of eating out.
-
Pay bills on time. Paying bills on time will save us from paying penalties that will just add to the original amount.
-
Create a budget list. Creating a budget list has always been an effective way of saving money. It will allow you to keep track of where your hard-earned money is going.
