The fact that men and women ARE different should be celebrated.

The fact that men and women ARE different should be celebrated.

First and foremost I must emphasise that recognising the differences between men and women does not deny dignity, rights, or worth. No law, slogan, or belief can make men and women "equal" (read "the same" in the literal, biological sense. In fact it could be argued that men are a mutation of women with the XY (female) variation to the standard XX (female) form. This was a discussion I came across some time ago, but I don't know if it holds any validity. Just thought I would throw it in there.

Many of the differences are obvious. As I have already mentioned men and women differ even at the most fundamental level, that being their DNA. These differences are reflected in anatomy, physiology, psychology, and behavior, all of which can be observed across cultures and time.

Men average about 5'9" in height; women about 5'4". Men carry roughly one and a half times as much muscle and bone mass and about half the body fat. Men have larger hearts and lungs relative to body size, denser bones, and greater upper-body strength.

This meme - while not truly accurate - women can and have been able to add muscle mass, but even then the strongest of women are nowhere near as strong as the strongest of men.

Athletic record reflect differences illustrated above with greater accuracy The heaviest weight ever lifted overhead by a man is nearly double that of a woman, and the fastest mile ever run by a man (3:42.66) remains well ahead of the female record. These performance gaps align with well-documented differences in muscle mass, hemoglobin, and oxygen capacity.

Furthermore women live, on average, more than seven years longer than men worldwide. Men have roughly double the risk of heart disease, dominate dangerous occupations, and account for the majority of workplace fatalities. Men also commit the majority of violent crimes and make up the overwhelming majority of prison inmates and death-row prisoners. Men are far more likely to die by suicide; women are more likely to attempt it.

Men produce ten to twenty times more testosterone; women produce far more estrogen and progesterone. These hormones influence risk tolerance, aggression, competitiveness, libido, emotional regulation, fat distribution, and bone structure. Biology is not limited to reproduction; it shapes temperament and long-term health.

Psychologically, men and women differ in predictable, population-level ways. Men score higher on average in systemising, spatial rotation, and task-focused intensity. Women score higher in verbal fluency, facial recognition, emotional sensitivity, and social awareness. Large meta-analyses document these differences while emphasizing substantial overlap between individuals.

Man-woman differences are average tendencies, not limits on individual ability. They can influence preferences in education, leadership styles, negotiation approaches, and occupational interests.

A simplified view of what shapes men's thinking vs. women

Men are more prone to risk-taking and physical confrontation. Women are more inclined toward nurturing and relational maintenance. Men tend to prioritise status, competence, and hierarchy whereas women place more weight on relationships, security, and social harmony. Men are more likely to use direct criticism and ultimatums; women more often use counseling. This of course is not hardwired and I can attest that in some cases this can even be reversed.

Self-perception between the sexes differs. Surveys consistently show that men report higher body satisfaction than women, while women pursue cosmetic surgery at far higher rates. Men are more likely to want to gain weight; women overwhelmingly report wanting to lose it. Let's be honest here, the media and fashion are culpable for this additional pressure on women.

Just for fun - another difference!

Sexual dynamics differ in consistent ways. Men think about sex more frequently; women think more about family and relationships. Men’s reproductive capacity spans decades; women’s is narrower and biologically constrained. Pregnancy and childbirth impose physical demands men do not bear. These patterns are well described in reproductive health research.

However, and as I stated from the outset these differences do not determine human worth.None of the above implies superiority or inferiority and differences do not form any kind of hierarchy. So now it is important to get to my main point for today, as hinted at in my introduction.

The danger lies not in recognising differences, but in denying them.

When societies treat men and women as interchangeable, standards are often adjusted to preserve that assumption. This can affect fairness in sports, accuracy of pharmaceutical prescriptions, workplace and military safety, legal balance, family stability, and child development. Civilisations have never eliminated sex differences through law or ideology. Attempts to do so produce resentment, dysfunction, and conflict rather than harmony.

Equality before the law is essential, however - and please read what I am saying in context - equality in body, mind, and behavior is not achievable.

Men and women are not competing versions of the same thing. They are complementary. Each brings strengths that the other does not have. Each compensates for where the other is weaker.

A healthy society allows men and women to become fully what they are while not pigeon-holing or defining them by an over-rigid societal structure.

As always stay safe and well my friends
