There are many creative and practical ways to earn cryptocurrency—whether you're looking for passive income, active engagement, or just some fun. Here's a breakdown of the most popular and effective method. While I do not necessarily do all of these, nor necessarily endorse them - please always do your own research - this is pretty much a summary of the best I have found in my 4+ years in crypto land.
Always remember, as a note of caution the number one rule of any scam. If something looks too good to be true it almost certainly is, even if it comes well recommended - eg Celsius - who you will see get a couple of dishonourable mentions even though they handled their bankruptcy relatively well.)
Passive & Semi-Passive Income
- Staking Lock up your crypto (like ETH, SOL, or ADA) to help secure the network and earn rewards. Great for long-term holders, but beware many of us including me got burnt by Celsius.
- Yield Farming Provide liquidity to DeFi platforms and earn interest or tokens. Riskier but potentially high returns.
- Crypto Lending Lend your assets on platforms like Aave or Compound and earn interest (see also my above comment on Celsius).
Gamified & Interactive Methods
These can be extremely time consuming so please weigh up time spent over rewards yielded but it is probably more effective than playing Travian because at least there is some reward at the end.
- Play-to-Earn Games Games like Axie Infinity, Splinterlands or Star Atlas reward players with crypto for in-game achievements.
- Learn-to-Earn. Sites like BitDegree or Coinbase Earn pay you in crypto for completing educational tasks. It is sad that Coinbase Earn has been discontinued.
- Crypto Faucets & Airdrops Claim small amounts of free crypto by completing simple tasks or just signing up. Consider in particular Cointiply, Dutchy Corp Autofaucet and, while not a true faucet, CoinPayU as they pay out in crypto. Freebitco.in is still well recommended but with BTC riding so high it is even more than painfully slow.
Active Trading & Investing.
This may have been the vision most of us had when we started and therefore it still holds much weight
- Day Trading Buy low, sell high—requires market knowledge and risk management.
- Hodling Buy promising coins and hold them long-term. Works best with solid projects like BTC, ETH, or BNB
- Arbitrage Exploit price differences across exchanges. Requires speed and precision
Creative & Professional Routes
- Freelancing for Crypto Offer services (writing, design, coding) and get paid in crypto via platforms like Cryptogrind or LaborX.
- Blogging or Content Creation Write for crypto sites, especially P0x or create YouTube content and earn through affiliate links or tips.
Experimental & Niche Options
- DEX Liquidity Provision Provide liquidity to decentralized exchanges and earn trading fees.
- Mining Still viable for coins like Bitcoin or Litecoin if you have the hardware and cheap electricity. Again be wary of such projects as cryptotab, who seemingly promise easy mining but at a cost (even if in the long term the BTC mined will outperform that immediate costs - that is something you need to think about.
- NFT Creation & Sales While not a fan personally why not consider designing and selling digital art or collectibles on platforms like OpenSea or Rarible.
And Finally
- Many of the above have active referral and affiliate programmes which can increase you income and at times exponentially.
I have not examined any of these in any great depth but I wanted to put them out there to give you some food for thought. Which options are you using and what would you consider in the future. Which ones would you not touch and why.
Always remember DYOR!
As always stay safe and well my friends.
