A few years ago I realised that I have a connection with the world's most powerful people including Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin and while the faces change, the profile of the individuals concerned never does. Let me explain.

It all goes back to a theory popularised by Kevin Bacon based on six degrees of separation and is cultural phenomenon based on the concept of the "small world" theory, which suggests that any two people on the planet can be connected through six degrees of separation. The game involves finding the shortest path between a given actor and Kevin Bacon by identifying co-stars who have worked together in films. This idea emerged from earlier theories about interpersonal connections, notably articulated in the 1929 short story "Chain-Links" by Frigyes Karinthy and further explored through social psychology experiments by Stanley Milgram in the 1960s. The game itself gained traction in 1994 when students at Albright College, inspired by several of Bacon's films, created a fun challenge around it. The Internet Movie Database (IMDb), of which I am a big fan, and related websites track these connections, revealing that most actors are surprisingly close to Bacon, typically within three links. The phenomenon has led to broader applications in various scientific fields, where understanding network connections can provide insights into areas like social structures, neural networks, and even genealogical studies. The concept continues to resonate in popular culture, showcasing both the interconnectivity of the entertainment industry and the intriguing nature of human relationships.

So there we go Now how does it work in my case.

I know a Polish guy, a former boss in fact, who is a wannabee politician for one of Poland's smaller political parties and he inevitibly knows the leader of his party, who in turn knows those politicians operating at the highest level of Polish politics, such as Donald Tusk, Jaroslaw Kaczynski Former President Duda and current President Nawrocki - not to mention the most famous mustache in the world, namely Lech Walesa. All of these higher politicians are extremely connected at the highest level. So it works like this -

Of course these are links that I can never utilise, but it is still a fun and to think I am only six degrees from Putin is mental and to be honest any high ranking politician in the world can be added from the point of senior Polish politicians.
