Is Michael Saylor buying BTC again and if so Why

6,940... that was the number that sent shockwaves through the CryptoVerse several months ago when Michael "never sell your BitCoin" Saylor announced that his company, Strategy, had sold this many of them. To be honest sources vary on how much he actually sold, but whatever the number it was a financial earthquake. While obviously of great value, the cascade effect rippled though the whole market and the ensuing loss of confidence was a factor that drove us into a bear market. This was exacerbated by his stance that had been made clear from the outset. Him selling was effectively a rug-pull and for many it signalled a step too far for many investors who pulled back and EFT inflows stumbled, stopped and then were reversed for a season.

Last night I was working my faucets and on one of my "...pick.io" faucets I saw a headline that said that once more Michael Saylor and Strategy were once again acquiring BitCoin and so I thought I would have a quick look into it this morning.

The most recent disclosures that I have been able to find have suggested that Strategy has resumed its aggressive accumulation process in line with Saylor's long‑term thesis: that is to expand his BitCoin holdings toward a 1 million‑coin target through the exploitation of market dips as “liquidity windows,” (in principle this is no different to the rest of us) and using equity issuance to convert dollars into Bitcoin.

From what I have seen, Strategy have added 3,273 BitCoin in a recent tranche, as part of a $255M accumulation cycle and this is addition to a further 17,994 BTC that was purchased between March 2–8, 2026 for ~$1.28bn. This takes Strategy’s total holdings up to an estimated 818,000–840,000 BitCoin, depending on the reporting date. At today's price of $78,125,00 (just checked this means the total BitCoin value is as follows:

c24b619de309d235c505b02966ee4a17e8149cad008f654bfbd4f325d0f1150c.png

This confirms that accumulation has continued almost weekly.

Nothing has changed in that Saylor has openly stated a goal of controlling 5–7.5% of BitCoin’s total supply, which equates to ~1.05 million BTC. To reach this, Strategy must acquire ~239,000 more BTC by end‑2026 at a cost of $540M/week and while prices are suppressed at the moment (Strategy's Average Cost basis is $75,000 which has recently been broken again) and the price is weak Saylor sees it as an opportunity to buy large volumes without slippage.

His social media posts (“The Orange March Continues”) signal continued accumulation during volatility.

I just wonder if, given the scale of the holdings they have that the headline grabbing sell off of the 32 BitCoin was a deliberate ploy to send the market into free fall so that he could then capitalise on the lower prices. Evidence is circumstantial at best, but there is a certain logic to my proposed scenario.

Furthermore, this feeds into his long term strategy, in which Saylor considers BitCoin to be superior to cash reserves. With this underpinning everything he believes that corporate balance sheets should hold appreciating, scarce assets such as BitCoin and through the accumulation of BitCoin its supply is removed from circulation, which only strengthens Strategy’s position as the world’s largest corporate holder.

So naturally it seems that how one decisive move had a detrimental effect on the market the opposite should also be true and that is why, as I have commented above, the sell off was the deliberate manipulative action of a whale demonstrating his strength.

As always stay safe and well my friends.
