Short and sweet and straight to the point today. Those of you who know me know that for the longest of times we longed for a family and it just wasn't happening for us. In 2019 MamaRah almost died as part of the process we underwent to try to have a family and at that point I was ready to give up on our dream of parenthood.

Better to have a life with MamaRah and no children, than no MamaRah.

But then as Covid took over the world and the news was full of death and tragedy as the pandemic took over and forever changed the way we work and live exactly the opposite happened with us. Life touched and souls (please allow me to be poetic) and before it two became four.

In 2021 we saw the arrival of our first, who I affectionately called BabyRah, but has since grown up to be a sturdy, intelligent little soulmate for us. He has his moments, his tantrums and his frustrations of course, but on the whole he really is so loving and vibrant. In the light of a recent tragedy - that I posted on recently - when a similar aged boy was killed in a road accident it brought home even stronger how very precious he is to us.

Then, exactly two years ago, for it is his birthday today, lightning struck twice and before we knew it we had a second little package. He arrived earlier than expected, but he is a fighter with real grit and determination and boy has he had to draw on that. Born with health issue he has fought from the moment of his first breath. For the first seventeen days we were not allowed to bring him home and both MamaRah and I cried over his hospital bed as he slept in the oblivious world of a baby's mind. He still has this condition and it is something that he has to live with - and by implication so do we - but it is manageable and to all intents and purposes he looks like a regular healthy little boy. But he is tough, robust and shows great endurance and we just know that he is going to have to draw on everything he has within him as he faces life and its challenges.

The fact is that his condition, while not life-threatening, other than any of the usual potential post-surgery risks, if it comes to that is a time-bomb. It may never go off, in which case he will go through life just like everybody else, or it might go off in an hour, a day, a week, a month, a year... We just don't know and all we can do is hope for the best and pray that we are ready when that day comes.

By coincidence, one of my clients has a three year old who has a very similar condition and that day has come for her and I pray and wish that she comes through her surgery scheduled for this month as healthily as possible.

But for now let's lay that aside and celebrate as our baby, as far as we are concerned, has matured beyond baby into becoming a little boy.
