Am I a Crypto Dummy?

By rah | rah | 17 Jun 2026

I entered the world of crypto about six years ago and have steadily taught myself as I have been going along. Much of this has come through my own research - eg figuring out what Smart Contracts and EFTs are (among other things) and also through educating myself through the posts of others. PVM and Cryptonator immediately spring to mind, but there have been other significant contributors such as Mynima (who seems to have disappeared), Learn with Hattie and BitCoin Baby to name a few. It has helped shape my worldview and understand what crypto really is and that its real value has to be realised in real world usage. This is a primary reason why I am such a sceptic when it comes to NFTs and I wouldn't even touch them with my worst enemy's money (well that might not quite be true - but you know what I mean).

However, from time to time, I come across a blockage that I don't seem to be able to overcome. I sometimes wonder if it is a flaw within my personality. For example - and unrelated - I taught myself Web Design a few years ago and HTML and CSS were pretty easy, as was setting up a MySQL database for the back end of my site, but I could not for the life of me get my .php scripts to work and so I never got as far as C+++ or Python or anything else. In the end after multiple attempts I simply abandoned it and went wordpress, but to be honest I rarely even use that now due to time pressures.

So, I am writing today to

  • describe my specific experience
  • to see if I am alone in what I experience
  • to appeal to somebody more knowledgeable to post in easy language a solution (Yes - PVM / Cryptonator I am looking at you if you have time :D !)

This is just typical of where I am at with such things. I have some Polkadot (DOT) that I want to move from a faucet and when I tried an initial address it said something about having to use the Polkadot Resource Hub to do so. The faucet also recommended either Trust or Talisman Wallet, which I duly set up despite not wanting three million wallets. Talisman doesn't even have a clickable interface for me to use and while Trust seems more amenable I am still presented with the same problem of having to use this somewhat elusive hub.

So I Googled Polkadot Resource Hub and was quickly led to what in effect seems to be a white paper on what it does, but I am looking for the answer to the question of "how". How do I download it (if necessary). How do I set it up? How do I use it? How do I offload DOT from my faucet? How do I send it to Trust, given that a direct address doesn't work.

How! How! F**king how?

Is it just me? Am I dumb? I just want a straight forward A-Z of how to do it (hopefully without 26 actual steps). Any thoughts or ideas?

Finally, why do things have to be so damn complicated?

I am looking forward to some responses and if you do post a solution feel free to add the link here. Simple solutions only please because it might well turn out that I am a dummy after all :D

And on that sobering thought please, and as always, stay safe and well my friends.
