I know I am getting repetitive and my intention is that this will be the penultimate post on the subject at least for a while. I posted yesterday that my beloved Lincoln City were on the verge of being promoted to the Championship - England's second tier. This is a level that Lincoln have not played at since the 1960-61 Season and thus it is something remarkable.
Well yesterday was the day we crossed the line. You might remember I posted the qualifying critera which made it almost impossible for Lincoln not to be promoted, but Lincoln being Lincoln decided to turn the decisive match into a Hollywood blockbuster. Playing Reading, we scored first and so the score remained until the 90+2 minutes when Reading scored with an impressively well taken free-kick. Lincoln's defence was unusually penetrated, but Lincoln have a never say die attitude and again we came back and were justly rewarded with another goal four minutes later and just before the final whistle.
This same attitude terrified Premier League Chelsea earlier in the season when we won the first half easily and largely dominated the second half with the exception of two mad minutes when they overturned their half time deficit to win the game 2-1. One Chelsea player went as far as to say they had never seen or experienced anything like it.
This is Lincoln City, this is my Lincoln City!
So the table now looks like this.
While it was obviously amazing that Lincoln won, Bolton and Stockport drew 2-2 which means in fact they knocked themselves out of the race to overcome Lincoln, although Cardiff are still vulnerable. With Bradford now in third place with only another 15 potential points available the gap to Lincoln - 19 points is now unassailable and thus our promotion is guaranteed.
We still have yet to be crowned Champions. Cardiff, whose form has dipped terribly in recent weeks including yesterday's 1-1 draw which resulted in more dropped points - have potentially 18 more points to play for and a potential to hit 96 points over all. Lincoln need only 7 points mathematically from their last five games to secure promotion. However the goal difference is effectively another point, so 6 points should be enough unless Cardiff can overcome a net swing of 10 goals during the same period.
We are going up - will we be champions - that has yet to be decided, but our fate is very much in our own hands.
Back to crypto tomorrow.
As always stay safe and well my friends.
