Short tip: Care with the FOMO

By foski97 | Quick Tips | 26 Sep 2023

Hey there!

FOMO or Fear Of Missing Out is the concept where you make an action without thinking well about it because you fear the opportunity may dissapear. An example may be an offer in the supermarket of a product that you don't actually need but you fear you might need it in the near future. In this example you could loose the money used to pay for that product if you don't use it (Loose by underusage).

In crypto this also happens. You may hear someone talking about an altcoin that may skyrocket (like DOGE) and that he is going to buy some amount of it. You may feel tempted to also buy that altcoin hoping to make some profit. Spoiler: Only a couple of altcoins actually make profit. It is very risky and you should seriously consider if you want to invest on them.

Other FOMO trend is the pump on price of a crypto. That crypto may rise for a few minutes, making you think that that trend will continue, making you buy that asset.  Then, this happens:

pump and dump

This trend is called pump and dump. The price skyrockets and then it falls to the original price or below it.

Conclussion

I personally fear FOMO (ha, ha, ha, very bad joke). I fear loosing the investment made because i took an impulsive decision. I prefer to overthink my investments to be conscious of the risks, the possible profits and the investment plan made for that asset. I know overthinking investments may make you loose some big opportunities, but it also protects you from possible looses.

Hope this helps and see you next time!
