SciFi Future - Flying Taxi's coming to Orlando, FL
WooHoo, its coming true. Flying cars that is...
Munich Germany based aviation company, Lilium, signed a deal with the city of Orlando, Florida, Wednesday 11/11/20 to build the country's first flying taxi hub with flight operations beginning in 2025.
Lilium first revealed the world's all-electric, vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) jet aircraft in 2019. Their offering is powered by 36 all-electric engines. It will take-off and land like a helicopter while achieving horizontal flight like a plane.
Where - Lake Nona, Orlando will be the flying taxi hub's future site. This will allow people to travel within 186-mile radius which could reach larger Airports such as Orlando International (MCO) and to Tampa International (TPA). Lilium calls their Lake Nona site a 'Veriport' which will be short for Vertical Takeoff facility. This is Lilium's first of many planned 'Veriport' destinations. At this time nothing was released about where the next area would be. I assume it would a large metroplex such as Dallas-Fort Worth (large geography) will complex highway systems and high population density. I could be way wrong and they go for LA or SanFran; only time will tell
Between the Hyperloop (MagLev) offerings and Flying cars America might enter the next Millennium?
