SCI-FI Future Quantum Internet - Tested this week

Apologies I have not posted anything about the SCI-FI future as of late, I have been distracted by other shiny things.

This week marks a major milestone as a team of researchers announced that they successfully teleported qubits of photons across approximately 27 miles of fiber-optic cable. Although this task was not ground breaking as other have completed this, the difference was they transmitted quantum information across this long distance. The other important fact is they achieved 90+% fidelity for that dataset. 

What was used? This team used commercial off the shelf components which helps control costs.

What's next for this team? A city size scale test called Illinois express quantum is Chicago, IL. A timeframe was NOT provided.

Summary - Major strides are being made toward a Quantum Internet using commercial off the shelf components. Perhaps it will be the saving grace for humanity; time will tell
