Saudi Arabia's NEOM - a linear city
What is NEOM?
Neom is a highly ambitious and controversial development project in northwest Saudi Arabia along the coast of the Red Sea. While being designed as a futuristic, high-tech megacity in the desert, one of Neom's best-known planned features is "The Line," , a linear city contained in mirrored skyscrapers that plans to run on 100% on renewal energy. The Line — a part of Neom that comprises two mirrored 1650 foot tall skyscrapers — is one of the most famous regions of the planned megacity. The Twin Mirrored Skyscrapers will be 656 feet apart. The line will be 106-mile long futuristic city!
Some have characterized NEOM as a smart city, I believe the intent is a region that contains resorts, cities mixed use communities, research centers as well as entertainment developments. NEOM is part of their 2030 to diversify the economic engines of Saudi Arabia.
Where is NEOM located?
The Line of NEOM is located in the Tabuk Province. The below map snippet shows exactly where this is being developed.
NEOM is slated to be the gateway to the Kingdom
It was announced in October of 2017 and is the vision of Mohammed bin Salman and is intended to the the gateway to the Kingdom for the next 100-years.
NEOM Project will rollout in phases
Phase I includes 1.5miles of the Line and is expected to cost $100B

- Magna
- Sindalah- a resort
- Oxagon - The port
- THE LINE - the linear city
- Trojena is planned as ski resort in the Sarwat Mountains near the north of the Neom region.
Summary
Like it or not NEOM is a future project that is under development since 2018. At times, through history the big thinkers are mocked until enough people understand the vision and then they 'get it'. Are you considering visiting or moving to NEOM?
