Sci-Fi Future takes shape w/ the help of Jet Fusion
For all the Green Washing going on out there, its nice to see actual work for future Energy Sources continues to take place. I am referring to the Joint European Torus (AKA JET). Which is located in Oxfordshire, UK, which runs a fully functional magnetically confined plasma physics experiment. Trying to produce the same type of energy as our Solar System Sun.
This experiment started way back in 1983 and has spent each decade continuing to refine energy product and efficiency rates. Major shutdowns and re-designs took place from 2009 - 2011.
The major build block is a tokamak which is a device which uses a powerful magnetic field to confine plasma in the shape of a torus.
Why is this important? The recent test produced a record-setting 59 megajoules of energy. Wait what is a megajoule? A megajoule is a unit of energy in the International System of Units.
Those still not keeping up here is the decoder ring - A kiloJoule (kJ) is 1000 Joules and a megaJoule (MJ) is 1,000,000 Joules.
Digging more into the actual science of the JET project - This experiment utilizes hydrogen isotopes: deuterium and tritium as fuel. Wonder if the green army will issues with this form of Hydrogen fuel like they do others? Funny how they never offer suitable alternatives just attack hardworking science and engineers.
Older Jet Energy Records - Back in '97 JET produced 22 megajoules of energy.
Are these experiments producing more energy than they require to run? Not sure based upon what I am reading.
Wondering how AI/ML efforts are assisting these experiments?
