Recently everyone and his brother has been discussing the blockchain technology regardless of their knowledge and experience in the subject matter. Cryptocurrencies are all over the news coming from financial markets. Sometimes it seems that even the air is somewhat digitalised and encrypted.

Today we are going to draw your attention to the utility potential of non-fungible tokens (NFTs). An NFT is sort of a unique digital signature which can be attributed to a file. That is how users can buy digital content and prove their ownership. In such a way anyone can easily secure the rights to unique digital objects, such as pictures, videos, or game items. This means that an NFT allows a person to buy not the product itself, but rather the access to it. It happens by means of linking a token with the information about the owner.

But where is the utility? Here we go! A standard NFT assigns an ability to use a digital asset. Meanwhile, according to the latest trends and tendencies, more and more people realise that tokens lack tactility. For that reason NFTs are getting more related to real-world applications. A utility NFT can correspond to a physical item, a pass to a concert or a football match, a meal at a restaurant, and many more various options.

Recent NFTs are mostly associated with gaming and entertainment. But the team at Monster Molecules Research Lab (MMRL) is crazy about smart utility. The unique idea is to link their NFTs with a number of educational options. The range of options is supposed to cover various types of professional trainings, from micro- and nano-learning systems to classic studies at renowned old-school universities.

That sounds monstrously smart, doesn’t it? Still there are many questions coming from here and there. In this regard Professor, Founder and Lead Molecular Scientist of MMRL, provided his answers and got into details regarding the project. Below you will find the answers to the shortlisted frequently asked questions.

“I am a newbie in crypto. Why shall I invest in Monster Molecules? Please explain.”

Professor: If you’re new to the world of cryptocurrencies or decentralised finance (De-Fi) and etc., you probably would have heard about non-fungible tokens, or NFTs for short. If you haven't seen it yet, here's a quick recap: An NFT is a one-of-a-kind token that lives on a blockchain and represents (or points to) some other data, such as an image or video. NFTs are easy to track because they live on a blockchain, typically Ethereum. This tracking enables verification of their authenticity as well as their previous history and owners. NFTs are formalised smart contracts, typically ERC-721, with which people interact by calling them and then receiving proof of interaction.

Monster Molecules is a collection of such NFT art based on the Ethereum blockchain. There are 5555 generative pieces of artwork that have their own characters and traits. Each art piece is unique and some are rarer than others. However, Monster Molecules is not just your average NFT project that relies on the JPEG image and hype. It comes with a unique Utility that is associated with the artwork.

NFTs with a utility are the future of the NFT space. The team behind Monster Molecules strongly suggests finding projects with utility because they carry real-world and quantifiable value. A utility NFT can be where someone receives a physical piece of art that corresponds to the NFT they purchased; it could be exclusive access to an event, exclusive in-person memberships, or future use in the digital world (think within a game). Simply put, ask the question what the NFT gets you? And there’s an answer, then that is the utility.

Monster Molecules provides utility in the form of access to education via the means of online learning platforms, executive education, microcredential (nano-degree or micro-masters) and many more opportunities to upskill and reskill.

“How can Monster Molecules influence the metaverse and crypto space?”

Professor: The world of NFT is currently being dominated mainly by fashion, entertainment, sports, and games. The technology behind blockchain and NFT enables innovative fundamental changes to the way the business ecosystem functions in many sectors. Education and the training industry are in the infancy stage of this technology adoption. Monster Molecules aims to pioneer the use of the NFT in the education and training industry.

When we are talking about a project at this scale, we are involving many different aspects of blockchain technology. Specifically the ERC-721 token, the metaverse, and WEB 3.0. The current release of 5555 genesis clan of the Monster Molecules will pave its way into all the matters mentioned above. The utility from Monster Molecules, which provides access to education, is an immediate and quick use case of the NFT art in the real-world application. The project aims to purchase lands in the metaverse that can be used by the members and holders to have educational based conferences, webinars, skills development workshops, research collaboration or simply a place to hang out. It can be a secret lab in the metaverse for people interested in learning and self-development.

Along with the development of events in the Metaverse, there will be a release of ERC-721 tokens or coins that can be used to purchase services and products within the metaverse space of Monster Molecules. Then holders can benefit from other cryptocurrencies features such as trading, stacking and holding on to the token or coin.

“What are you working on right now? What’s going on within the project?”

Professor: The most important thing that we are working on right now is collaborating with many learning platforms and education institutions to provide access to education. The Artwork is ready and available on the blockchain. All measures were already taken to ensure the security and authenticity of the NFT project. Thus, we are on our third stage of execution of the project which is to have more access to education and marketing activities to get the project known to the public.

“Why are your Molecules one-handed?”

Professor: The hardest decision made on the Monster Molecules project is the artwork itself. We had had many different conceptualisations before we approved the final image that you can see right now. The base image is a carbohydrate molecule known as glucose. Glucose is a hexose sugar i.e. a monosaccharide with 6 carbon atoms. Hexoses exist in two forms, open-chain or cyclic, that easily convert into each other in aqueous solutions. As you can see the body of the monster is hexagon-shaped with only one hand. Why is there only one hand? Because in the cyclic form, all the 5 carbon atoms are held inside the ring while one of the carbon atoms is outside the ring. It is attached to oxygen and hydrogen atoms.

We didn’t want to make them too “sciency” and bore the audiences who may have the knowledge of chemistry or may not. We want to combine the fun and creative art elements of NFT with the slightest bit of structural evidence of science. And after so many modifications and alterations to the artwork, Monster Molecules were born. In another way, we can say that Monster Molecules are a fusion of both art and science.

“How do you see Monster Molecules in the nearest future?

Professor: We see monster molecules hold a huge capacity as a standalone project without any bluechip association or background. We firmly believe in the utility that we provide along with the NFT that will both benefit the holders in terms of real-world gain as well as other NFT benefits such as trading, flipping, etc. The future of monster molecules is to establish the Monster Molecule University. What is starting as a research laboratory is expected to evolve as Monster Molecules faculty and eventually a full-fledged University in the metaverse. Be part of the evolution of WEB 2.0 to WEB 3.0 in the education sphere.
